When everything goes wrong

It sometimes feels like the whole world is conspiring against us, and nothing goes right. The problem is that the thought of everything going wrong causes even more things to go wrong. It’s not magic, it’s a matter of attention. When we are consumed by that thought we can’t see clearly, we often can’t even walk in a straight line, almost like drunks. And then we can’t find what we’re looking for, keep stumbling on things and breaking things which further reinforces our belief that nothing can ever go right – we now even have the evidence to prove it. But it’s the thought that causing all of this. And underneath that thought is an overwhelming emotion, typically anger or sadness.

And emotions are fairly easy to let go of if you have the right technique. Take the sting out of the anger, the guilt or the sadness and the thoughts that stem from them disappear, your mind clears and all the mishaps stop happening. Even standing still for a moment, taking a breath and tuning into that emotion can help tremendously. You’re not clumsy, you’re just extremely preoccupied and there’s no space in your mind for that plate of spaghetti you’re carrying that’s about to splat on the floor.

And of course if you sit down and actually spend a few minutes with Wuju, your mind should properly clear and your body will be yours again.
